From a slogan to the human being

I know what you're thinking!

A stunning woman with a very cute dog eating ice cream with whip cream on top on a beautiful summer day.

Well here's the real truth.

I am quite stunning, my dog is incredibly cute, it was a beautiful day yesterday

AND

That's gluten free, dairy free ice cream with dairy free whip cream on top!

I have celiacs and lactose intolerance

Abracadabra watch me turn this message about dogs, ice cream, summer and me into a post about belonging.

I remember those days when we were told "It's a working lunch day," we were told we could not leave the office for lunch and that pizza would be provided.

While you may think, "YAY PIZZA," and that may sound like a bajillion years ago, it wasn't that long ago and I found my self feeling hungry and resentful yet afraid to speak up. What good would it do. That's the way it is.

Fostering an environment that respects and accommodates diverse food preferences and food allergies can contribute to a more inclusive workplace by

1. Respecting diversity
2. Showing cultural sensitivty
3. Reduces exclusion and promote connection
4. Enhances engagement to people who may otherwise feel left out
5. Reduces stress
6. Educates others on cultural traditions

Fostering inclusive work cultures where people feel safe to share their preferences and those preferences are taken into consideration for how decisions are made takes

"You Belong Here"

from a slogan into the human!
